| 正面描述 | Bust of King Carol I facing left, depicted in military uniform adorned with epaulettes, decorations, and a sash across the chest, rendered in high relief with fine detail. The engraver's signature 'A. MICHAUX' appears on the truncation of the bust. The circumferential legend reads 'CAROL I REGE AL ROMANIEI' to the left, with the regnal date range '1866-1906' to the right, separated by a raised dot. The field displays attractive iridescent toning, and the coin is encircled by a continuous border of raised beads. |

Produced for the 1906 Bucharest General Exposition, which celebrated forty years of Hohenzollern rule in Romania, these pattern strikes were never intended for circulation. The exposition itself was a deliberate exercise in projecting Romanian national prestige — held on the grounds of Filaret, it drew over a million visitors and showcased Romanian industry, agriculture, and art to an international audience.
KM#Pn146 is one of several pattern denominations prepared for the occasion. Surviving examples passed largely through official and diplomatic channels rather than the market, which kept documented auction appearances sparse well into the late twentieth century.
