背面描述 Equestrian effigy of Carol I as Prince, depicted in medieval Romanian boyar attire including a hooded cloak, seated upon a walking horse shown in three-quarter left profile over rocky ground. The composition evokes an archaic, heroic character befitting a commemorative pattern. The surrounding legend CAROL I DOMNUL ROMANIEI arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 50 LEI is positioned to the lower right, all within a beaded border.

附加信息

The 1906 issue commemorated the fortieth anniversary of Carol I's reign and the General Exposition of Bucharest — Romania's first large-scale world's fair-style exhibition, held in Carol Park. Pattern pieces from this event were struck in multiple metals as trial runs and presentation pieces, pewter among them, with official circulation coinage ultimately produced in gold.

Carol I had taken the throne in 1866 as a Hohenzollern prince imported specifically to stabilize a fractious young state. By 1906 he had survived a constitution, a war of independence, and a kingdom proclamation. The pewter survivorship rate from this pattern series is low.
