| Aanvullende informatie |
Căpriana is Moldova's oldest surviving monastery, with origins traced to the early fifteenth century and a history that includes destruction, abandonment, and reconstruction across multiple centuries of Ottoman, Russian, and Soviet rule. The Soviet authorities closed it in 1962 and used the grounds for other purposes; serious restoration only began after independence. This coin was issued as part of Moldova's broader commemorative program of the late 1990s documenting Orthodox religious and cultural heritage that had been systematically suppressed for decades.
