50 Kwanzas

Angola's post-independence coinage was issued under severe economic strain — the country had been in civil war almost continuously since 1975, and the kwanza itself was introduced in 1977 to replace the colonial escudo at par. By the mid-1980s, inflation was eroding the currency rapidly, which explains why the denomination range expanded upward while physical coin quality in circulation degraded. The 1991 end date for this type coincides with monetary reforms that preceded the kwanza's eventual collapse and replacement with the novo kwanza and later the readjusted kwanza.
