Additional information

Part of the FAO coinage program that flooded global mints through the 1970s, this issue was tied to Turkey's push to promote grain production under the broader UN Food and Agriculture Organization initiative. Turkey struck several denominations in the series across multiple years, making the 50 Kuruş one of the more frequently encountered examples. The stainless steel composition was a deliberate shift driven by rising metal costs that had made earlier Turkish alloys economically unworkable by mid-decade.
