Additional information

The Edirne mint — one of the few provincial Ottoman mints still operating by the mid-19th century — struck this issue in the same year the city was a key node in the empire's first railway negotiations with European investors. Provincial gold of this period is considerably scarcer than Constantinople output; Edirne's production runs were short and the mint was closed not long after.
