A captured instrument repurposed by a new state. The Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes came into formal existence in December 1918 with no printing infrastructure and no time — overprinting existing Austro-Hungarian stock was the fastest route to a functioning currency. These notes were stamped to distinguish Yugoslav-territory notes from the broader Habsburg circulation pool, part of a frantic effort to prevent capital flight and arbitrage across the collapsed empire's former borders.

The 1914 printing date places the underlying note within the early wartime issue series. Overprint quality and placement vary considerably across the P#8 series — inconsistent application was endemic to the whole overstamping program.
