Landsbanki Íslands was granted the sole right of note issue in Iceland in 1927, and this 50 Krónur note belongs to the first series produced under that monopoly. The long print run — spanning nearly three decades from 1928 to 1957 — was not continuity so much as inertia; Iceland's small population and limited banking infrastructure meant demand for new designs was slow to develop.
Bradbury Wilkinson handled the printing throughout, as they did for a number of small national issuers who lacked domestic intaglio capacity. Jón Thorleifsson's design credit is notable — Icelandic designers were rarely commissioned for banknote work at this period.
