The Danish Bridges and Antiquities series, launched in 2009, replaced a long-running series that had featured portraits — a deliberate departure, with Nationalbanken opting instead for architectural and archaeological themes tied to Danish cultural heritage. Karin Birgitte Lund handled both design and engraving across the series, an unusual combination of roles for a modern intaglio note.
The 50-kroner denomination accumulated an exceptional range of signature combinations across its seven-year print run — over a dozen distinct pairings, reflecting genuine turnover in Nationalbanken's board composition during the period. The series was withdrawn from circulation following the transition to the subsequent Bridges and Prehistoric Monuments issue.
