Bratislava's millennium as a city — marking 1,000 years since its first written mention in the Annals of Salzburg in 907 AD — was the direct occasion for this issue. Czechoslovakia regularly used its commemorative silver program as a vehicle for historicist soft nationalism, and this piece falls squarely in that pattern. The .500 fineness reflects the cost-cutting that had become standard across Eastern Bloc commemorative programs by the mid-1980s, as silver allocations tightened.
