The National Bank for Bohemia and Moravia was itself a creature of the Nazi Protectorate administration, established in 1939 after the dismemberment of Czechoslovakia to replace the Národní banka Československá. This 50 Korun note is one of the earliest issues under that imposed institutional identity — the bank's printing facilities in Prague continued operating under German oversight, producing currency for a population that had no say in the monetary arrangements being made on their behalf.
The korun was pegged to the Reichsmark at a rate widely considered punitive, effectively transferring purchasing power out of the Protectorate and into the Reich economy.
