Pick 16 was issued at a politically awkward moment: the new Czechoslovak state had already conducted its currency separation from the Austro-Hungarian krone in 1919, stamping old notes to buy time, and was still working to establish a credible independent currency identity. The 50 Korun of 1922 was part of that consolidation effort, replacing emergency-era stopgaps with properly designed republican paper.
The note was printed by the American Bank Note Company — unusual for a Central European issuer of this period, reflecting both the prestige attached to ABNC's work and the practical reality that domestic printing infrastructure capable of producing secure banknotes simply didn't exist yet in Prague.
