Comments

In the chaotic months following the collapse of Austria-Hungary, acute small-denomination currency shortages pushed Hungarian commercial banks into emergency note issuance — something they had no legal mandate to do in stable times. The Győr branch of Magyar Általános Hitelbank produced this 50 Korona as a local emergency note, valid only within the branch's commercial sphere. These Hitelbank branch issues are among the more obscure products of Hungary's 1919 monetary fragmentation, issued in parallel with municipal and cooperative emergency notes across the country.

The Ambrus catalogue remains the primary reference for this material; Pick does not cover Hungarian commercial branch issues at this granular level.
