| Aversbeschreibung | The national arms of the Lao People's Democratic Republic depicted in the central field, comprising a stylised landscape with paddy fields, a road, forest, and an electricity pylon, surmounted by a hammer and sickle with a five-pointed star above, all flanked by sheaves of rice and bound at the base by a gear wheel with a rising sun motif and ribbons bearing Lao script inscriptions. The circular legend THE LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC runs along the upper periphery in Latin characters, and the denomination 50 KIP appears in the lower field below the arms. |

| Reversbeschreibung | A boldly rendered full-body depiction of a Megalosaurus in right profile, portrayed in a dynamic upright stance amidst a rocky prehistoric landscape with fossilised remains and fern-like vegetation visible in the lower right field. Radiating lines in the upper field evoke sunlight behind the figure. The curved legend PREHISTORIC ANIMALS arcs along the upper periphery in spaced Latin capitals, with the species name Megalosaurus inscribed in mixed-case lettering below it to the left. The date 1995 appears in the lower left field. |

| Zusätzliche Informationen |
Laos issued a series of prehistoric animal coins throughout the 1990s under a program that had virtually nothing to do with domestic monetary policy — these were purpose-struck collector pieces sold through international numismatic distributors, never intended to circulate within the country. The Megalosaurus choice is historically pointed: it was the first dinosaur to receive a formal scientific name, described by William Buckland in 1824 from fragmentary Oxford remains.
Mintages on these Lao wildlife and prehistory issues were typically capped low, and secondary market survival rates are uneven due to inconsistent original distribution records.
