The National Bank of Ukraine established its own printing facility in Kyiv in 1994, just three years after independence — a deliberate move to bring note production fully in-house rather than rely on foreign presses as the country had during its earliest post-Soviet issues. This commemorative 50 Hryven marks two decades of that institution's operation.
