Ukraine has printed its own banknotes domestically since the Banknote Printing and Minting Works opened in Kyiv in 1994 — a deliberate break from the Soviet-era dependency on Goznak in Moscow. The 2019–2021 production run of this denomination falls within a period of significant monetary stabilization following the hryvnia's near-collapse in 2014–2015, when the currency lost roughly two-thirds of its value against the dollar.
Security provision on this issue is modest by contemporary central bank standards — watermark and thread without the optically variable or color-shifting elements found on higher denominations in the same series.
