Opmerkingen

Ybbs an der Donau was one of hundreds of Austrian municipalities that issued their own small-denomination Notgeld during the postwar economic collapse, when coin shortages made everyday transactions nearly impossible. The Stadtgemeinde series from 1920 falls into the second wave of Austrian local emergency money — by this point the practice had become sufficiently routine that provincial printers like Emil Prietzel in Steyr were handling municipal commissions across Upper Austria with considerable regularity.

Prietzel's output for small-town issuers tends toward economical production: modest print runs, limited color work, functional rather than elaborate. The JPR1258a designation within the Jaksch catalog places this among the documented Ybbs issues, though survivorship varies considerably across the denomination range.
