Wösendorf is a tiny wine-growing village in the Wachau, and this note is exactly what it looks like: a hyperlocal emergency issue printed during the Notgeld wave that swept Austria in 1920 as small coins vanished from circulation entirely. Thousands of Austrian municipalities — some with fewer residents than a city block — contracted private Viennese printers to produce fractional notes. Eduard Sieger handled a substantial share of that work.
The JPR1255a designation places this among the documented Jaksch-catalogued Austrian community issues. Survival rates for village Notgeld vary wildly; rural pieces often circulated hard and briefly before being discarded once the coinage shortage eased.
