The left vignette presents a townscape view of Wartberg ob der Aist as it appeared in the twelfth century, captioned 'WARTBERG OB DER AIST IM ZWÖLFTEN JAHRHUNDERT', while the right vignette shows the same locality in the twentieth century, captioned 'WARTBERG OB DER AIST IM ZWANZIGSTEN JAHRHUNDERT'. Above the central dividing column the denomination text 'Fünfzig Heller' is repeated on each side in Gothic script flanking a large numeral '50' in a dark shield cartouche, with the word 'Gutschein über' arched across the top. |

Austrian municipal notgeld, issued by the commune of Wartberg ob der Aist in Upper Austria during the small-change famine that gripped the country from around 1919 onward. The withdrawal of coins from circulation — driven by hoarding and metal shortages following the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy — forced hundreds of small municipalities to print their own fractional notes, this 50 Heller piece among them.
The Jaksc catalog suffix "b" indicates a variant within the series, most likely a printing or paper difference from the primary type.
