Comments

Austrian municipal notgeld from the immediate postwar period, when the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left local governments scrambling to cover a chronic shortage of small coin. Unter-Weißenbach is a small market town in Upper Austria; its municipal authority issued these 50 Heller notes in 1920 under the same legal framework that produced thousands of similar local emergency issues across the former Austrian crownlands.

The Jaksch/Pick reference places this squarely in the documented notgeld corpus, but the print runs for individual village issues were often tiny and unrecorded. Surviving quantities are largely a matter of chance rather than design.
