Treubach is a small commune in Upper Austria, a few kilometers from Braunau am Inn — the same border town where Adolf Hitler was born in 1889, though that fact is incidental here. What matters in 1920 is the broader emergency: the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system after 1918 left hundreds of Austrian municipalities scrambling to produce their own small-denomination notes, the so-called Notgeld, to cover the catastrophic shortage of coins. Treubach's 50 Heller was part of that wave.

Josef Moser's press in Braunau handled several local issues of this type. The single signature, Leop. Dachs, almost certainly represents the Bürgermeister at the time of issue.
