Austrian municipal notgeld from the post-WWI paper shortage years, when hundreds of Styrian market towns issued their own small-denomination emergency money to cover the absence of circulating coin. The 1920 date places this squarely in the second wave of notgeld production, after the initial wartime issues had largely collapsed and municipalities scrambled to meet local transactional demand.
Straß in der Steiermark was a minor market commune — the fact that it issued at the 50 Heller denomination suggests practical intent rather than the collector-oriented "Serienscheine" flooding the market by 1921.
