Vorderseitenbeschreibung The left half of the obverse carries a large heraldic vignette of the Bavarian coat of arms — a quartered shield with lozengy and lion fields, supported by two rampant lions and surmounted by a crown — accompanied below by a historicised German-script cartouche dated 1765 citing customs and toll regulations. To the right, the denomination '50' appears in bold blackletter at upper left and right, flanked by the inscription 'Gut-Schein' and 'Fünfzig Heller' in decorative script; a central oval vignette presents a line-drawn view of the St. Willibald parish church with tower and surrounding landscape. The validity clause 'Nur gültig bis 31. Dezember 1920' and the facsimile signature of the Bürgermeister Josef Entholzer appear below the vignette, with the municipality name 'St. Willibald O.Ö.' in large blackletter at the foot.

Rückseitenbeschreibung The reverse is set within a single ruled rectangular border on a plain paper ground with a faint overall pattern underprint. The entire field is occupied by a five-paragraph letterpress text in German blackletter script, stating the legal basis for the note's issue — a municipal committee resolution of 9 May 1920 — the redemption guarantee backed by the municipality's full assets, the validity period from 1 to 31 December 1920, and a counterfeiting warning.

Anmerkungen

St. Willibald is a small rural commune in the Innviertel district of Upper Austria, and this 50 Heller note is a product of the postwar Notgeld wave that swept through Austrian municipalities between 1919 and 1921. The central government's inability to supply small-denomination coinage — hoarded almost universally once metal values exceeded face values — forced even tiny village administrations to print their own emergency scrip. Josef Entholzer, who signed as Gemeindevorsteher, was legally authorizing a stopgap that the state had effectively made unavoidable.

H. Doblmeier's involvement as designer places this among the locally produced Notgeld issues rather than the more polished series farmed out to Vienna printers.
