Comments

Sankt Valentin is a small Lower Austrian market town on the Enns river, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities in 1920, it issued its own Notgeld to compensate for the chronic small-change shortage that had plagued the region since the war years. The printer here, Emil Prichel of Steyr, handled a number of local emergency issues from the surrounding district — Steyr being the logical production centre for this corner of Upper and Lower Austria.

The Jaksch/Pick reference JPR0941-50 places this firmly within the documented Austrian municipal Notgeld corpus, though St. Valentin issues see limited turnover in specialist sales.
