St. Konrad is a small parish municipality in Upper Austria, and this 50 Heller note is a product of the postwar Notgeld wave that swept through Austrian towns between 1919 and 1921. With the Austro-Hungarian crown in freefall and small-denomination coinage virtually absent from daily commerce, hundreds of municipalities printed their own emergency scrip. Most issues were locally authorized, locally signed, and locally trusted — useful only within the issuing community.
Franz Pöll's signature as guarantor anchors the note's validity to a named individual rather than an institution, which was common at this municipal scale. The Jaksch/Pick reference JPR0899-50 places it firmly within the documented Austrian Notgeld corpus.
