Obverse description Printed in brown-orange and dark blue on plain paper, the obverse centres on an arched vignette of the Sonntagberg pilgrimage church and surrounding hillside landscape rendered in fine letterpress. The vignette is enclosed within an ornate Art Nouveau frame of scrollwork and foliate devices, with denomination numerals '50' and the Gothic-script legends 'Fünfzig' and 'Heller' placed at the upper left and right corners respectively. The lower section carries the issuer inscription 'DER GEMEINDE SONNTAGBERG' above the word 'NOTGELD' in a cartouche, flanked by stylised floral ornaments, with a legal liability clause in Gothic script below and two manuscript signature lines for the Bürgermeister and Vizebürgermeister.

Reverse description The reverse is printed entirely in dark blue on plain paper in a text-based layout with no pictorial vignette. At the top, a three-line motto in large Gothic blackletter reads 'Einigkeit, ein festes Band / Hält zusammen Leut' und Land.', followed by a block of Gothic-script text confirming the total issue of 125,000 Kronen in 50-, 20- and 10-Heller notes, the non-interest-bearing nature of the notes, and their acceptance by the Gemeinde Sonntagberg until 31 December 1920, with a counterfeiting warning. A small ornamental monogram device appears below the text block, and the designer and printer credits are given at the foot.
