Reverse description The reverse is printed entirely in dark blue on plain paper in a text-based layout with no pictorial vignette. At the top, a three-line motto in large Gothic blackletter reads 'Einigkeit, ein festes Band / Hält zusammen Leut' und Land.', followed by a block of Gothic-script text confirming the total issue of 125,000 Kronen in 50-, 20- and 10-Heller notes, the non-interest-bearing nature of the notes, and their acceptance by the Gemeinde Sonntagberg until 31 December 1920, with a counterfeiting warning. A small ornamental monogram device appears below the text block, and the designer and printer credits are given at the foot.

Comments

Sonntagberg is a Lower Austrian pilgrimage site whose Baroque basilica drew visitors for centuries before the collapse of the Habsburg economy made even small-denomination transactions difficult. This 50 Heller Notgeld belongs to the flood of municipal emergency money issued across Austria in 1920, when coin shortages left ordinary commerce nearly paralyzed in the months following the empire's dissolution.

The printer, Druckerei Waidhofen a. d. Ybbs, handled a number of regional Notgeld issues from the surrounding Mostviertel area, giving notes from this cluster a recognizable production quality — modest but competent. Designer credits to Bukovics and Knell suggest local architectural involvement in the artwork, which was not uncommon for municipalities that wanted their Notgeld to reflect civic or religious identity rather than anonymous commercial printing.
