| Opmerkingen |
Schönbühel an der Donau is a small market town on the Danube in Lower Austria, and this 50 Heller note is a Notgeld issue — emergency small change produced by municipalities across Austria and Germany during the severe coin shortage that gripped the region from around 1914 onward. The Habsburg state could not keep fractional coinage in circulation; metal went to the war effort, and hoarding did the rest. Local governments filled the gap themselves.
F. Seitenberg's Vienna lithography shop handled a considerable volume of Notgeld work for Lower Austrian communities during this period. The Jaksc reference places this within the established regional catalog for Austrian municipal issues.
