Rutzenham is a tiny village in Upper Austria — a municipality so small it barely warranted its own notgeld series, yet like hundreds of similar communities it issued emergency paper during the postwar coinage famine of 1919–1921. The Austro-Hungarian monetary collapse and the chaos of successor-state currency transitions left local governments scrambling to produce fractional substitutes at the municipal level, often in single print runs that never saw significant circulation beyond the immediate parish.
The Jaksc reference confirms this as a catalogued type, but low survivor numbers from issues of this scale are the norm — village notgeld was spent hard and discarded faster than urban issues.
