Puchberg am Schneeberg is a small market town at the foot of the Schneeberg massif in Lower Austria, better known today as the terminus of the Schneebergbahn rack railway. This note belongs to the vast Austrian Notgeld phenomenon of 1919–1921, when the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left municipal and district authorities scrambling to cover a severe coin shortage by issuing their own low-denomination emergency scrip.
Paul Gerin in Vienna was among the more prolific printers of Austrian Notgeld, and Anton Peschke's design work for this series reflects the localized artistic ambition that distinguishes the better Gemeinde issues from purely utilitarian scrip. The JPR0786b suffix indicates a variant within the Puchberg series — worth distinguishing from the 'a' type when cataloging.
