Opmerkingen

Pottenstein an der Triesting is a small market town in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of similar municipalities in the immediate postwar years, it issued its own emergency small change notes — Notgeld — to compensate for the chronic shortage of metal coinage that plagued the former Habsburg territories after 1918. These local issues were authorized under Austrian emergency provisions and typically ran for only a few months before being withdrawn.

The 50 Heller denomination was among the most common face values for this type of municipal issue, filling the gap left by the near-total disappearance of bronze and nickel coins from circulation.
