50 Heller Pischelsdorf

Pischelsdorf is a small municipality in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of comparable communities in the immediate post-war period, it issued its own emergency small change — Notgeld — to compensate for the catastrophic coin shortage that followed Austria-Hungary's collapse. The 50 Heller denomination was among the most common values produced across these local issues, as it filled the gap left by hoarded or melted coinage.

Josef Moser's print shop in Braunau am Inn served several regional municipalities during this period. Auer-Nobauer's engraving credit is unusual for a note of this modest origin — most comparable Notgeld relied on generic jobbing-house typography with no credited design work at all.
