备注

One of thousands of Austrian Notgeld issues produced after the First World War, when the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left municipalities scrambling to fill a coin shortage with locally printed emergency paper. Petronell, a small market town in Lower Austria, authorized this 50 Heller note in 1920 — by which point the Austro-Hungarian Krone was in accelerating decline and small-denomination metal coinage had effectively vanished from circulation.

Kunstanstalt Jarisch & Neuhold, the Vienna printer responsible for this series, handled a large volume of municipal Notgeld work during this period. Petronell's issue was purely functional — redeemable only locally, and worthless outside the municipality that issued it.
