备注

Ostermiething is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 50 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities after the collapse of the Habsburg Empire left the new republic chronically short of small change. Local authorities — down to individual villages — printed their own emergency scrip between roughly 1919 and 1922 to fill the void left by hoarded or withdrawn coinage.

Municipal issues from settlements this size were typically produced in very limited runs, often by regional printers with no specialist banknote experience. Survival rates vary sharply; some were redeemed and pulped, others kept as curiosities almost immediately upon issue.
