Beschrijving voorzijde Olive-green letterpress note with a decorative border enclosing three vignette panels. The central and dominant vignette, signed by artist Jos. Fluch, presents a detailed landscape view of the Ötscher massif (1,892 m) with alpine scenery including conifer trees, rocky terrain and a small railway visible at lower right. A smaller left-hand vignette shows a chalet amid firs, while the right-hand vignette carries a botanical motif of edelweiss. The denomination '50' appears in large numerals at both upper corners flanking the issuer inscription, with validity dates and three manuscript signatures of municipal officials at the foot.

Beschrijving keerzijde Plain buff paper reverse enclosed within a simple floral-vine decorative border. The field is occupied entirely by six lines of Austrian dialect verse in ornate Fraktur script, attributed to the folk song 'Da Schwoagrin ihr Herzload 2,' evoking the gentian flower as a motif of loyalty and longing. The printer's imprint appears in small type at the foot centre outside the verse panel.

Opmerkingen

A Notgeld issue from a small Lower Austrian municipality, signed by no fewer than three local officials — the finance officer, mayor, and vice-mayor — a formality that reflects how seriously even tiny communities treated the legal standing of emergency scrip during Austria's post-war currency crisis. Mitterbach, a village at the foot of the Ötscher massif, would have issued these notes to alleviate the chronic small-change shortage that plagued rural Austria through 1920 and 1921. Designer Josef Fluch and printer Sommer of St. Pölten handled numerous such regional commissions in Lower Austria during this period.
