Lofer is a small market town in the Salzburg region, and like hundreds of similar Austrian municipalities, it issued its own emergency paper money — Notgeld — during and after the First World War when small-denomination coins effectively vanished from everyday commerce. The Wagner printing house in Innsbruck supplied a significant number of these local issues across the Tyrol and Salzburg regions, producing runs for towns with populations sometimes counted in the hundreds.
The JPR0560c designation places this within the Jaksch catalog of Austrian municipal Notgeld, where Lofer's issues are among the more obscure provincial entries.
