Kolosseum Gesellschaft m. b. H. was a commercial entertainment venue operator, and this Heller note belongs to the wave of privately issued notgeld that flooded Austria in 1920 as small-denomination coinage virtually disappeared from everyday transactions. Businesses, municipalities, and private firms across the country printed their own fractional currency to make change — a workaround that the Austrian government tolerated rather than endorsed.
Langhammer's Linz press handled a number of local notgeld contracts during this period. The issuer's commercial rather than municipal status makes this piece less common in systematic collections.
