Comments

Austrian Notgeld at the 50 Heller denomination was the workhorse of the village emergency currency system — issued because the postwar coin shortage made small transactions genuinely impossible, not as a collector novelty. By 1920, however, the collector trade was already well aware of Notgeld, and many municipalities printed in excess of local need. Whether Kirchberg bei Linz overprinted for that market or kept production modest is not documented in the standard references.

Karl Huber in Urfahr was a regional printer serving numerous Upper Austrian communes during this period. The Bürgermeister signature of Josef Trauenberger gives the note its formal validity under Austrian emergency currency regulations.
