Imst is a market town in the Tyrolean Inn valley, and this note is one of hundreds of Notgeld issues that flooded Austria in 1920 as small-denomination coinage essentially vanished from circulation. The federal government never solved the fractional coin shortage after the war, forcing individual municipalities to paper over the gap themselves — literally. Deutsche Buchdruckerei in Innsbruck handled a significant volume of these local Tyrolean emergency issues, and the notes were typically printed in bulk for multiple municipalities from the same press run.
The JPR reference places this within the Jaksch-Pick regional Notgeld catalog, which documented over a thousand Austrian municipal issues from this period.
