Obverse description Printed in green on light paper, the obverse centres on a folk-art vignette of a rider mounted on a horse decorated with floral garlands at the neck and mane, rendered in a fine line-engraved style. Large letterpress denomination numerals '50' appear within ornamental roundels at lower left and right, flanked by guilloche rosette panels, with 'HELLER' set along the bottom edge. The issuer inscription 'Gemeinde Hüttau' is printed in script beneath the central vignette, accompanied by facsimile manuscript signatures of municipal officials.

The enclosed text, set in block capitals, states that the vouchers will be redeemed at the municipal treasury in legal tender until 31 January 1921, referencing a total issue of 20,000 Kronen and the council resolution of 8 July 1920. The printer's imprint 'R. KIESEL, SALZBURG' appears in small type at the foot of the note.

Comments

Hüttau is a small village in the Pongau district of Salzburg province, and this 50 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austria following the collapse of the Habsburg economy. Municipal authorities across the country were forced to print their own emergency small-change notes because coins had vanished entirely from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply never reminted after the wartime disruptions.

R. Kiesel was a Salzburg-based printer responsible for a number of regional Notgeld issues from this period. The JPR0401b suffix indicates a variant within the Hüttau series.
