Hohenberg is a small market town in Lower Austria's Traisen valley, and this 50 Heller note belongs to the vast wave of Notgeld issued across Austria in 1920 as the postwar coinage shortage left communities scrambling for small change. The printer, F. Wurst of nearby Lilienfeld, handled several such local commissions in the region — a practical choice given the distances involved and the urgency of the need.
The Jaksch/Pick reference places this in the well-documented Austrian Notgeld corpus, though Hohenberg issues are among the less frequently encountered valley-town emissions from this period.
