At left, an oval vignette contains a bust portrait of a woman in profile facing right, rendered in brown intaglio-style engraving. Hausmening is a small village in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of comparable municipalities in the immediate postwar years, it issued emergency currency — Notgeld — to compensate for the near-total collapse of coin circulation following the dissolution of the Habsburg monetary system. The 50 Heller denomination was among the most common values produced across this wave of hyperlocal issues, though the use of two named designers for a single small-format note is unusual and suggests the municipality took some pride in the commission.
F. Nielar of Amstetten, a regional printer rather than one of the major Viennese houses, handled production. Jaksch/Pick reference JPR0358Ic places this within a documented series for the commune.
