Goisern was a small market town in the Salzkammergut, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities after the First World War, it issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — to address the chronic shortage of small coins. The Gotscher design is locally produced work, not a commercial printer's job, which accounts for the hand-drawn quality typical of rural Austrian municipal issues of this period.
The Pick reference JPR0247II places this in the second series. Worth noting: the printed date of 30 April 1945 in the catalog data is almost certainly a cataloger's entry error — Gemeinde Notgeld of this type was a 1920–1921 phenomenon, not a 1945 one.
