The issue date 'Gars, am 28. One of thousands of Austrian municipal Notgeld issues printed during the postwar economic collapse, this 50 Heller note from Gars am Kamp was produced at the F. Berger press in nearby Horn — a regional printer that handled a significant number of Lower Austrian Notgeld commissions in 1920. Karl Elleder's design work for these small-town emergency notes varied considerably in ambition; Gars, a modest market town on the Kamp river, was not among the issues that attracted collector attention on the speculative Notgeld market that briefly inflated demand before collapsing by 1922.
