Frankenburg is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 50 Heller emergency note belongs to the vast wave of Austrian Notgeld issued between 1919 and 1921 when chronic coin shortages — accelerated by postwar hoarding and metal requisitioning — forced even minor municipalities to print their own fractional currency. Jos. Feichtingers Erben was a Linz printing firm that handled a significant share of regional Notgeld production for Upper Austrian communities during this period, which means the printing quality is generally consistent but the notes were never intended for longevity.
The Jaksch/Pick reference JPR0206II-50 places this in the second series issued by Frankenburg, suggesting the first run was exhausted before the coin situation normalized.
