| 备注 |
Esternberg is a small market town in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similarly sized municipalities, it issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — during the severe coin shortage that gripped Austria between roughly 1920 and 1922. These local issues filled a genuine gap; small-denomination metal coinage had effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted, leaving everyday transactions impossible without substitutes. The municipality's Bürgermeister Josef Hell signed off on this 50 Heller note as the responsible authority, which was the norm for communal issues of this type.
F. Degn's design credit is uncommon enough to be worth noting — most Gemeinde-level Notgeld from this region was produced by regional printers working from generic templates.
