Comments

Ennsdorf is a small municipality on the south bank of the Enns River in Upper Austria, administratively separate from the much larger town of Enns directly across the water. This 50 Heller note is part of the broader Austrian Notgeld wave of 1920, when the postwar collapse of the crown and chronic small-coin shortages forced hundreds of municipalities — including tiny ones like Ennsdorf — to issue their own emergency scrip. Emil Prietzel operated a printing house in nearby Steyr and handled a significant volume of local Notgeld commissions from communities throughout the region.
