Eggenburg's 50 Heller Notgeld of 1920 was a product of acute small-change shortages that plagued Austrian towns in the years immediately following the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy. With the new Republic struggling to produce sufficient low-denomination coinage, hundreds of municipalities printed their own emergency scrip — legal in practice if not always in strict law. Eggenburg went further than most by using its own local press, the Presseruniodruckerei, rather than outsourcing to Vienna.

The JPR0162c suffix indicates this is one of several distinct issues from the same municipality, distinguishable by color or text variants.
