Dietrichschlag bei Leonfelden is a small rural commune in Upper Austria, and this 50 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities after the collapse of the Habsburg economy left the country chronically short of small change. F. Kling operated out of Urfahr — then a separate town on the north bank of the Danube, not yet absorbed into Linz — and supplied printed emergency currency to several regional communes during this period.
The watermarked paper is worth noting; many Notgeld issues of equivalent obscurity skipped security features entirely.
