Bodendorf's 50 Heller Notgeld was issued in 1920, part of the vast emergency coinage wave that swept Austrian municipalities after the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left small change effectively nonexistent. Jos. Walt'l in Linz handled a considerable volume of Upper Austrian Gemeinde commissions during this period, producing notes for dozens of small communities working from modest budgets and short timelines.
